About the Facilitator:

Miriam van Reijn

This course is taught by award winning film director Miriam van Reijn, born in Amsterdam, emanating from a long lineage of well known performing Artist's, dating back to the Comedia del Arte of the 18th century. Her great Grandmother "Maria Kleine Gartman"was the founder of the Theater school in Amsterdam.

From a very young age Miriam performed in several TV, Film and Stage productions. As a youngster she loved spending time in the T.V. Director room's at the N.O.S. studio's, observing how it all worked. Her professional stage career started in 1973 at fourteen with her father Sir Rob van Reijn (knighted for his Performing arts and stage work)  in shows throughout Holland, Belgium, Malta, Germany and Austria.

She has also performed in several feature films with the film academy in Amsterdam and attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York.

In 1982 she started a family and became mother of four children whilst working at the Modern Dance School Amsterdam.

In the mid 1990's the family moved to India for four years where she performed alongside Indian musicians and dancers, including a spectacular with Kumudini Lakhia  Company for India's 50-year independence celebrations. She also worked as the 1st assistant director on the feature ilm "The Outhouse" produced by Leslie Carvalho, which won two awards for Best Direction at the International Film Festival in Calcutta 1997, all scene's where shot in one take, and was the first official Indian film at the Cannes International film festival in France, and facilitated workshops on Camera Acting, at the studio of Prasad Bidapa.

Miriam is also a master drummer and has performed in many shows with a fusion of West african drumming and dance, she moved to South Africa from 1998 till 2007 where she was the creative member of Mass Appeal Productions performing at the Grahamstown arts festival and facilitated tailor-made corporate processes for about 50000 people in over 150 organizations. 

Worked on several TV and Film commercials in Cape Town, was casted without auditions and facilitated  "Camera Acting Classes" with great success in Cape Town.

After a one day course, one student went the following week to 5 auditions, he had 4 call back's and got one of the role's. This person had gone the whole Hollywood route did audition after audition with no success, and knew that my teaching's where clear, direct, simple but effective, and he now is casted for T.V. Productions.
